Round 8 saw the A girls match up against an always competitive foe T.E.M. Looking for that so far elusive home game win, the girls went out ready to give everything they had for the Snakepit crowd.
The play was even for the first 15 minutes with both teams looking to gain control of the match. But it was Phoebe Rothfield that found Jess Brennan on the top of the circle who then slipped the ball past the keeper giving the A girls their first goal. Hard work and composure in the midfield was rewarded with a penalty corner that was converted by Bronte Kerley on the post making the score 2-0.
T.E.M began to push back with long balls finding their strikers giving our defence a run for their money. With a strong flat-stick tackle, Rheanna Gallo dispossessed T.E.M and quickly found Dan Schubach in the midfield. A classic one-two play with Steph Young was followed with a cross to Jess Brennan on the spot who then scored her second goal for the match.
3-0 at half time and T.E.M came out with a new intensity that was lacking in the first 35 minutes. But the defence held strong consistently thwarting their attempts. As T.E.M began to tire out, the A girls found themselves with multiple forward opportunities that they were struggling to convert. Steph Young, however, managed to win a scrimmage at the goalmouth during a short corner putting the score up to 4-0. The fifth goal was a tomahawk scored by Dan Schubach after an excellent solo run.
An overall team effort saw the SeaGals earn not just their first home game win for the season but also their first clean sheet game. The girls now look forward to facing the undefeated Doncaster next week and are hoping to claim the win.
