2024 Annual Report & Summary of the Year

The Altona Hockey Club is proud to present the 2023-2024 Annual Report:
President’s Year in Review
2024 was a year we saw some exceptional performances for our club as well as another record number of representatives (including many in Australian teams). We welcomed several new sponsors aboard, and launched our inaugural reunion round to ensure our former members are always welcome back at the A’s.
We got a new electronic scoreboard, courtesy of the Westgate Tunnel Neighbourhood Fund. We also thank our sponsors Werribee Steel and Burlin Electrical for their contribution to this project. We were also lucky to have our local member, and Minister for Roads, the Hon. Melissa Horne, officially open the scoreboard.
2024 marks the end of one era, and the beginning of a new exciting chapter in our Club’s history. We are about to bid farewell to our pavilion, which will be demolished over summer and replaced by a new, state of the art facility in 2025.
While many of us will miss the old rooms, as quaint as they are, it will be fitting that one of Victoria’s leading hockey clubs finally has a pavilion that we deserve.
We thank Hobsons Bay City Council for their budget allocation and work on this project. Andrew Meiers, and previously David Burns, were instrumental in getting this project over the line. Riley Faulkner and Richard Samuels assisted with the planning stage as well.
While our ability to churn out representative players and continue to play finals hockey across the club amazes the Victorian hockey community, we need to grow our junior section to ensure we continue to produce future Altona champions at all levels.
Growing our club, at all levels, is something we all play a part in. You can all recruit your friends, welcome back past players and make new players feel the Altona welcome, when they join.
Our Junior Development sessions on Monday nights were well received by juniors and their parents. Our Seagulls Program pilot at U/10s level saw some fantastic skill development and will be rolled out to all junior levels in 2025.
We are lucky to have so many exceptional coaches and representative players bringing their experiences back to Altona to improve our current and future players. Thank you to all the sponsors, coaches, volunteers and of course, our players, for a wonderful year.
Our Club is a wonderful place because of how everyone helps each other, putting their hand up to get jobs done. It’s the Altona Way. If you can help in any part of the club, please let me know.
We have already started preparing for 2025, and look forward to opening our new Clubrooms with a successful season on and off the field.
